SEOUL, Aug. 20 (Yonhap) -- The new song "Pink Venom," released by K-pop super girl group BLACKPINK on the 19th, has begun to create a global sensation by setting various records.
According to the agency YG Entertainment on the 20th (KST), the music video surpassed 100 million views on YouTube at 6:35 p.m., 29 hours after its release.
YG Entertainment said, "This is the shortest time it has taken for a K-pop girl group music video to reach 100 million views so far," adding, "The previous shortest record was 32 hours and 23 minutes set by BLACKPINK's "How You Like That."
BLACKPINK has a total of 33 videos with hundreds of millions of views.
"Pink Venom," a pre-released song from BLACKPINK's second full-length album, topped the iTunes Top Songs chart in 73 countries around the world, including the U.S. and the U.K., on the day of its release.
According to YG Entertainment, the song enjoyed popularity in North America, South America, Europe, Asia, and Oceania and topped the iTunes Worldwide Song Chart.
"Pink Venom" topped major music charts such as Melon, Bugs, Vibe, and Genie in Korea.
The second album "Born Pink," which is set to be released next month, is expected to break the record for K-pop girl group album sales by exceeding 1.5 million pre-orders within a week of announcement.
Meanwhile, BLACKPINK was nominated for group of the year in the 2022 MTV Video Music Awards (VMA), along with the group BTS, as announced by the U.S. music channel.
