SEOUL, July 18 (Yonhap) -- “I was thinking about what people look for the most in summer, and the keyword ‘ice’ (iCE) came to mind.”
Singer HYOLYN held a showcase to commemorate the release of her third mini album 'ICE' in Yongsan-gu, Seoul on Monday. At the showcase, she said “I thought I am like ice on stage. I show a powerful and cool side of me, but when I come down, I melt like ice.”
Debuting as the main vocalist of K-pop girl group SISTAR in 2010, she showed her unique presence with explosive singing skills and stage manners, even after she debuted as solo.
This year, being the only solo participant in Mnet's contest program “Queendom 2”, she showed her own charisma.
Captivating viewers' attention with “Queendom 2,” she dropped her album among competitive summer albums.
Although HYOLYN might want the title “Summer Queen,” she said “I hope many people can shake off their worries when they listen to my music,” adding, “I am happy when someone else is happy. If someone becomes happy after listening to my music, I do not need any other achievements.”
Everyone knows that she has great singing and dancing skills. However, it is evaluated that she succeeded in showing off ‘Plus Alpha’ (+α) charm through “Queendom 2.”
HYOLYN said, “If I have been showing given music and choreography on a stage, through ‘Queendom 2', I interpreted music myself, thought about in what concept to perform and what to wear, and created the stage myself.” "It is a 'Plus Alpha' that I have grown a lot," she explained.
This kind of “growth” is also in line with the option to take on the challenge of being a one-man agency instead of joining an existing agency as a solo.
She said, “I just wanted to be on the stage and show music to people. The fastest way to do that was an one-man agency,” adding “It was really difficult and there were so many things to worry about that I felt like I have been blind about how the world is like.”
She added, “It was difficult to realize and experience things I did not know, but I am grateful. I want to keep going forward. I want to show my music until the end.”
This mini album has a total of six songs, including the title song “NO THANKS,” the pop genre “Over You” with an impressive synth-pop keyboard sound, R&B pop track “BODY TALK,” and “Queendom 2” final contest song “Waka Boom.”
HYOLYN produced and participated in writing and composing in all of the songs.
The title song “No Thanks” is a hip-hop dance song, which mixed hip-hop and R&B, about melting to the loved one. The repeated lyrics of “No Thanks,” like the title, are addictive, ringing in ears.
Although HYOLYN is very grateful for the title “Summer Queen,” she said she sometimes feel “pressured.” She explained, “Since it is a title I got when the four members of SISTAR were together, I worry that I may ruin the title working as a solo.”
She continued, "When I was on “Queendom 2,” I was on the “Queen mode” to match the name of the program. But I am not that image. If I seemed like hard-to-reach, this time, I want to show you summer music that HYOLYN interpreted.”
The singer will show her exclusive patent “hill dance” in this album as well.
She laughed, saying, "I have a desire to challenge my limits, so I think I will continue to do heel dance."
"I am a person who is happy and grateful for the stage and performance. I cannot really fathom the size of that love. I want to show you a variety of wonderful and interesting performances through concerts as soon as possible.“
