SEOUL, May 19 (Yonhap) -- “I still can’t believe that I won. It still felt like a dream when I came into the press conference and saw the banner ‘AleXa Wins.’”

AleXa, who won the American NBC competition program “American Song Contest” said in a press conference held on the 19th at Yongsan District, Seoul, “Even if I haven’t slept on the plane and am still nervous, I’ve been waiting for this moment for so long.”

The singer who arrived from the U.S. earlier in the day smiled without showing signs of exhaustion and answered the reporters' questions.

AleXa said, “K-pop is still a new genre in the U.S.,” adding, “I did my best to promote K-pop with my performance.”

The singer, who was the only K-pop artist in the program, impressed the viewers with her song “Wonderland” and ranked No.1 in the audience vote.

The program’s host American rapper Snoop Dogg, encouraged AleXa by saying, “Actually, K-pop is my guilty pleasure.” Kelly Clarkson, who also hosted the show said, “It is my first time to see such performance (of AleXa).”

The singer said, “K-pop has a different charm from regular pop in performance,” adding, “There are so many elements in K-pop such as the stage set, clothes, hair, and makeup.”

“I don’t think language is important in music. I hope people don’t think about whether it is pop or K-pop and enjoy the music regardless of language,” explained AleXa.
