SEOUL, July 28 (Yonhap) -- 2020 Tokyo Olympic gen Z national players have directly received cheering comments from their favorite K-pop stars.
These young Taeguk Warriors could not help showing their delight calling themselves ‘Seong deok’ which is short for a slang ‘Seonggonghan deokhoo’ (this means a successful fan, usually used when succeeding in acknowledging one’s presence to his or her biases). ‘Deokhoo’ comes from a Korean pronunciation of a Japanese word ‘otaku’ which indicates a person who is totally into a field or a figure etc.
Ham Eunji (24, Wonju City), who ranked 7th place on Weightlifting Women’s 55kg, uploaded a photo on social media of herself holding a character doll of Sun Woo from the boy band The Boyz after a match on the 26th.
Sun Woo responded with a message, “I heard that our country’s Olympic champion is a fan of ours”, and “She did such a great job and I am so proud. Thank you”, through Universe, a fan platform.
Ham Eunji captured the message and posted on Social Media with a comment, “My hands are all shaky and this is crazy.”
Table Tennis player, Shin Yubin (17, Korean Air) who is known as an Army (BTS’s fandom name), received a cheer from V.
V after seeing a photo of Shin mentioning on a program “I feel better after listening to BTS’s new song” from a fan community Weverse, he commented at the photo, “Hope the best for you” with a thumbs up.
After seeing the comment, “Something was on Weverse and I found out that it was about me”, and “I wanted to post in on social media and brag about it but I had match schedules so I kept it down”, said the young champion on a pres interview.
Winner of 2 gold medals in archery, An San (20, Gwangju Women’s Univ.) who rose as the top gen Z player along with archery men’s Kim Je-deok, is a big fan of girl group Mamamoo appearing for matches with Mamamoo’s light stick badge pinned on her uniform.
Moonbyul and Solar, members of the group said “We will find a way to deliver our concert ticket to her no matter what”, and “we really want to invite her to our offline concert if we do have one”, on Naver now live-show “Studio Moon Night”.
An san is also a fan of WJSN (Cosmic Girls) and Eunseo, a member of the group, commented “Awesome” on one of the champion’s postings on social media.
An san posted a comment beneath it, “Me as an Ujung (WJSN’s fandom meaning friendship) receiving a comment from miss Ju-yeon (real name of Enseo), I am such a seongdeok!”
Hwang Sun-woo (18, Seoul Physical Education High School) who set a new record in Korea for 100m freestyle, had mentioned Ye-ji from girl group ITZY as his favorite singer and received her cheer.
Ye-ji uploaded her selfie with her fingers crossed into a shape of a little heart and wrote “Good luck for the final later. Fingers crossed”, on the 27th.
