SEOUL, Feb. 9 (Yonhap) -- GFriend’s Eunha, SinB, and Umji challenged the music industry once again with the new group VIVIZ.
“Since we think we have walked an amazing path, we have fully prepared to walk this new journey more remarkably,” shared VIVIZ on the online showcase ahead of the release of their first mini-album “Beam Of Prism.”
VIVIZ is a shortened word for “VIVID dayZ,” a combination of “vivid” that means strong and clear, and “days.”
The album consists of seven tracks including the title song “BOP BOP!,” “Intro,” “Fiesta,” “Tweet Tweet,” “Lemonade,” “Love You Like,” and “Mirror.”
Umji said, "It's an attractive album with abundant colors of our members," adding, "I filled the vocal parts in a variety of ways. The album also contains trendy music that emphasizes the light of the members.”
The title song “BOP BOP!” is a hybrid pop dance song that combines Latin rhythm and disco.
SinB explained, “We couldn’t come up with the title track because we were thinking so hard about what color to show in the first album of us three. When we heard ‘BOP BOP!’ we thought it was perfect for our title song.”
Umji said, “We had 6 members (as GFriend) and now as three, there wasn’t time to sleep while filming the music video,” adding, “I had time to sleep when the other members took their individual photos, but now I had to film something else when the others took their personal shots."
VIVIZ's re-debut took place about nine months after GFriend split in May last year.
Eunha explained, “I really wanted to go up on stage after taking a break as a singer for a year,” adding, “It was hard for me to wait for the moment of our debut because I wanted to sing for you.”
The members debuted in 2015 with GFriend’s title song “Glass Bead,” from the first mini-album.
“While GFriend’s music was more emotional and touched the heart of listeners, VIVIZ does cheerful music that makes you shake your body,” compared Eunha.
Umji added, "We've been active for eight years, but there's a lot we haven't shown you. There'll be a lot more to reveal.”
Meanwhile, the three members of VIVIZ tested positive for COVID-19 ahead of their first album but recovered before the release date.
Umji said, “I felt bad and couldn’t believe it since I was the first member to be infected,” adding, “I was upset but it was an opportunity for me to become more aware of my health.”
