SEOUL, Mar. 29 (Yonhap) – S. Korean film director Hong Sang-soo's feature film "The Novelist's Film," which won the Silver Bear at the 72nd Berlin International Film Festival, will be released in theaters in Korea next month.

Distributor Jeonwonsa Film Corporation announced on Tuesday that "The Novelist's Film" will be released on Apr. 21.

The movie, which is Hong's 27th feature film, is a black and white drama film that was filmed in Korea for 2 weeks from March, 2021.

It is the story of a novelist Jun-hee, who takes a long trip to visit a bookstore run by a younger colleague who has fallen out of touch, climbs up a tower alone, and runs into a film director and his wife as well as Gil-soo. The film portrays how Jun-hee persuades Gil-soo to make a movie together.

Veteran actress Lee Hye-young, who worked with director Hong in "In Front of Your Face" (2020), plays Jun-hee, while Kim Min-hee, Hong's lover who was awarded Best Actress honors at the Berlin International Film Festival with the film "On the Beach at Night Alone"(2016), plays Gil-soo.

"The Novelist's Film,” which was previously screened at the 72nd Berlin International Film Festival in February, won the Silver Bear Grand Jury Prize.

The jury said, "By pushing time and space to their extreme limits, time becomes faith and space becomes the universe," adding, "In a shared society, which seems to only expand materially, this film's achievement gives us courage to change our values."
