SEOUL, August 4 (Yonhap) -- History museum where visitors can experience the royal palace of Baekje from 1600 years ago, opened in Iksan city of North Jeolla province on Thursday.
Iksan which is known for its Unesco Heritage Sites was a home of the biggest temple within the East Asian country Mireuk Temple which is now only a site, Pagoda of Mireuksaji, Archaeological Site in Wanggung-ri and more are spread throughout 710,000 ㎡ and the entire place is designated as a cultural heritage reserve.
“Baekje Royal Palace Museum” which opened recently is a remodeled version of what is previously known as “Wanggungri Site Museum” as part of the world heritage preservation project.
Recently opened “Baekje Royal Palace Museum” which is over 400㎡ big and consists of 2 stories high with a basement went under construction in August of 2020 and total of 13.9 billion won was put into the renovation process.
The museum has evolved into a smart museum through innovative remodeling and use of Information and Communication Technology, with hands on exhibitions, visible storage unit, permanent exhibition, special exhibition and more.
In order to help people understand the heritage site of Wanggung-ri, moving diorama model, touch interaction units, and various models and videos are placed throughout the museum to provide much more realistic experience.
Especially, throughout the exhibition, visitors will be able to whiteness the inside of first and one and only visible storage unit in North Jeolla provice through a glass wall.
Virtual experience section of the museum provides, VRs, holograms, live sketches and various other media which will feature various relics and realistic projection of the Garden of Baekje with water streams.
Moreover, by installing a rooftop observation deck visitors can look at the entire Wanggung-ri heritage site from above.
To celebrate its opening, “Baekje Royal Palace Museum” is offering a special exhibition of “The Millennium Road of the Baekje Royal Palace.”
70 different photos of relics from Wanggung-ri and the changes “Baekje Royal Palace Museum” went through from 1910 to recent years can be seen at the special exhibition.
