SEOUL, May 2 (Yonhap) -- Shin Hyun-bin (36), who takes the lead role in TVING’s original series “Monstrous,” said in a virtual press conference on May 2nd, “Living in a new environment that cannot be experienced in reality was difficult, but it was new and exciting.”

Shin explained, “I'm looking forward to how I'll be able to meet director Yeon Sang-ho's other works in the future,” adding, “If there is a second season of ‘Monstrous,’ I think more interesting stories will come out.”

Shin plays a genius code-breaker, Lee Soo-jin, who loses her daughter through a terrible disaster.

Shin explained, “I’ve thought of Soo-jin and acted as if she was an ordinary person and not a hero.”

The actress explained, “I think the drama will be more memorable since it is my first time acting in a work with a lot of fantasy elements,” adding, “Even if there are extreme situations, the relationship and conflict of the characters inside were familiar, so I acted while being curious about how it would be resolved.”

Shin mentioned actor Koo Kyo-hwan, who plays her husband, and added, “There were difficult scenes so we were both emotionally and physically exhausted. However, in those moments, we were able to give each other energy. It gave us the strength to act comfortably.”

Concerning the criticism that “Monstrous” faced about how it had a simple story structure and failed to make use of its topics, Shin added, “As it is a work that isn't defined in one genre, you will be able to find other fun factors when you keep your thoughts on the genre more open.”
