SEOUL, Nov. 8 (Yonhap) --  "Examination of child abuse resulting in death is necessary for the tragedy to not be repeated. Special law is currently pending in the National Assembly. We can change the child protection policy with our signatures."

Model and actress Jang Yoon-ju spoke in a recently released video on an international non-governmental organization, Save the Children Fund's YouTube channel.

According to the Save the Children, Jang participated in the season 2 of Child Abuse Prevention and Response Policy Campaign "#Please Add Your Name" (translated) and encourages people to sign the related policy.

This campaign took place last year from April to December. The organization has previously suggested child related policy to the government with the signatures of 46,000 people in last February.

Season 2 of the campaign contains contents that spotlight establishing law to investigate child abuse case at the national level, building a control tower for child abuse, and expanding the budget for child protection.

Save the Children said, "Since the death case of child abuse in Yangcheon in Oct. 2020, more than 50 child abuse-related bills have been submitted to the National Assembly," adding, "Special law was proposed in Feb. of last year but it still has not passed."

After the so-called "Jeong-in case," "Special Bill to Investigate the Case of Child Abuse Death in Yangcheon and Countermeasures for Eradication of Child Abuse" was proposed by Representative Kim Sang-hee of the opposition party but is still pending in the National Assembly Health Welfare Committee Subcommittee on Bill Review.

This bill highlights establishing a committee under president to investigate the child abuse death cases that happened over the past three years. However, no further process was made for almost two years.

Jang Yoon-ju emphasized that "three children each month disappeared into the night sky last year, and more than 100 children a day were hut by the abuse," adding, "We have to speak up together to protect the young who lost lives due to child abuse. Please stop this cycle death tragedy caused by child abuse with your signatures."

More details about the campaign and how to participate can be found at the website of Save the Children. The organization plans to gather the signatures and send it to the government and national assembly. Around 63,298 people has joined by signing.
