SEOUL, April. 13 (Yonhap) -- "While playing Cha Jung-sook, I thought the main character's life and my life were very similar. So it was a more touching and relatable story."

 

Actress Uhm Jung-hwa made the remarks at a press conference for the JTBC drama "Doctor Cha" held at the Chosun Palace Hotel in Gangnam-gu, Seoul on Thursday.

 

"Doctor Cha" is a story about Cha Jung-sook, a housewife who has a near-death experience and only knows her family, meets a turning point in her life by re-challenging the course of her major that she gave up for her family.

 

Uhm Jung-hwa said, "Even though the process of challenging the resident is never easy, Cha Jung-sook goes out to find her dream and joy," adding, "I love that side of Cha Jung-sook."

 

"After becoming a resident, she has to do both housework and hospital work, and she gets all kinds of persecution. In this difficult situation, she is comforted by me thinking, "How will this woman overcome?" and I myself was comforted."

 

Uhm Jung-hwa said, "I hope viewers will also sympathize with me, saying it's like their story."

 

Uhm Jung-hwa, who made her debut in the entertainment industry in 1993 with the movie "On a windy day, we should go to Apkujeong Dong," has been working as an actress and singer for the over 30 years.

 

"Doctor Cha" is also a drama in which Uhm Jung-hwa played the title role after a long time since MBC's "You're Too Much" (2017).

 

She said, "I missed the set the longer I stayed away from it, whether it was intentional or not," and emphasized, "I thought Cha Jung-sook's challenging story was similar to mine in a way, so I really wanted to do this drama."

 

Actor Kim Byung-chul plays Seo In-ho, a husband who works with Uhm Jung-hwa as a couple. He is the head of the colon anterior surgery department and was able to concentrate on his medical work thanks to the support of his wife, Cha Jung-sook.

 

Kim Byung-chul said, "I've been criticized a lot in the drama 'Sky Castle' before, but I think I have to be criticized more," adding, "I was at least faithful to my family in 'Sky Castle', but in this work, I have a first love other than my wife."

 

Producer Kim Dae-jin, who directed the drama, said, "This work is a family drama under the guise of a medical drama," adding, "Those who don't like complicated things will enjoy watching it."
