SEOUL, Aug. 11 (Yonhap) -- Singer Kim Jong-kook's hit songs, which swept Korea's music industry in the 1990s and 2000s, will be reborn one after another.
K-pop boy group ATEEZ will join hands with Kim Jong-kook to remake songs "Black Cat Nero" and "White Love," which were originally released by Turbo, a singing duo in which Kim was part of in the mid 90s.
The two songs will be included in the collaboration album "Season Songs," which will be released on the Aug. 16. The title track "Do you want to go see the sea? (tentative)" will also be contained in the album.
"Black Cat Nero," Turbo's iconic hit song released in 1995, was performed by ATEEZ last year when the group won the Turbo Special on KBS's music competition program "Immortal Songs: Singing the Legend." Unlike the original dance song, "Black Cat Nero" was rearranged into a rock genre music and caught many of the viewers' attention.
"White Love (At the Ski Park)," a representative winter song in the 1990s, will be changed to "White Love (Winter Fairytale on a Summer Day)." ATEEZ members Hong Joong and Min-gi participated in writing the lyrics.
Starting from today, ATEEZ and Kim Jong-kook's music production can be seen on reality show "The Man of ATEEZ" on Kakao TV every Wednesday.
The physical album will also be released in the form of cassette tapes or a USB to give off a 90s look.
In addition, V.O.S, a R&B trio group, will remake Kim Jong-kook's solo hit "Standstill" for the first time in 16 years and release it on Wednesday.
The original song released in 2005 was a medium tempo ballad song that gained huge popularity at the time.
V.O.S. rearranged the solo song so that all three vocal sounds from each member could be featured.
"We hope that our version of "Standstill" will become a good gift to help listeners feel nostalgic," the trio said.
Kim Jong-kook debuted as the leader and main vocalist of Turbo in 1995. Turbo established itself as the leading male vocal duo in the 1990s by releasing numerous hits such as "December," "Cyber Lover," "Twist King," and "My Childhood Dream."
After disbanding the team in 2001, Kim Jong-kook debuted as a solo singer and released a series of songs featuring his unique sweet voice and high-pitched notes such as "Loveable," "One Man," and "Today More Than Yesterday."
