SEOUL, Feb. 19 (Yonhap) -- The Horim Museum announced on Feb. 19 that it will hold a special exhibition "Memory" until Jun. 30 at the Sinsa Branch in Gangnam-gu, Seoul, to mark the 40th anniversary of its opening.

More than 170 cultural properties, including ceramics, earthenware, ironware, and paintings, and works of contemporary artists, such as Jo Deok-hyeon, Lee Ju-yong, and Lim Min-ouk, have been unveiled in the exhibition.
 

You can find placenta jar, which was created by the royal family during the Joseon Dynasty to store placenta of babies, stone placenta monument, a stone that records the name and birth date of the placenta, porcelain epitaph tablet, a stone that records the tracks of the dead, and ritual vessels, which were used when performing ancestral rites.

Moreover, the visitors can find the earthenware and armor buried in ancient tombs as grave goods and Gyehoido and portraits, which depicted the gatherings of writers and scholars of the Joseon Dynasty.

Seo Ji-min, the head of the research department of liberal arts at Horim Museum, explained, "In order to mark the 40th anniversary of its opening, we have prepared an exhibition to look back on the tracks of the Horim Museum," adding, "We have selected items that are related to the memory and decorated the gallery.”

She also mentioned, "I hope you can recall memories of the person you respect while watching the exhibition and make your own good memories."

The Horim Museum, one of Korea’s major private museums, was established in October, 1982, on the basis of artifacts and funds that entrepreneur Horim Yoon Jang-seop(1922-2016) had donated.

The main building was moved from Daechi-dong, Gangnam-gu, to Sillim-dong, Gwanak-gu, in 1999, and the Sinsa Branch was opened in 2009. It has more than 18,000 cultural properties, including 8 national treasures and 54 treasures.

The Sinsa Branch is closed on Sundays and Mondays. It is available from Tuesday to Saturday at 10:30 a.m. to 6 p.m.
