SEOUL, September 7 (Yonhap) -- Tony Leung Chiu Wai was selected as the winner of the Asian Filmmaker award, Busan International Film Festival announced on the press conference held virtually on Wednesday. This award is presented to an Asian film professional or organization that has made the most outstanding contribution to the development of the Asian film industry and culture.
Heo Moon-young, Executive Chairman, said, " He is one of the greatest actors who has been loved and respected by movie fans in Korea and all over the world for more than 30 years since he got the Golden Lion award at the Venice International Film Festival for the movie "A City of Sadness."
Tony Leung Chiu Wai will be awarded when he attends the opening ceremony of the festival on October 5.
He has won the Golden Lion Award, the best award at the Venice International Film Festival, for two more films, Cyclo (1995) and Lust, Caution (2007), in addition to "A City of Sadness." He also won the Best Actor award trophy for the movie "In the Mood for Love" at the Cannes Film Festival.
At the 2022 Busan Film Festival, six representative films selected by Tony Leung Chiu Wai will be screened under the name "Tony Leung Chiu Wai In the Mood for Love."
