SEOUL, Oct. 2 (Yonhap) -- Yonhap News Agency and Woori Financial Group's Woori Multicultural Scholarship Foundation will host the "2024 Korea Multicultural Festa" on October 25 at the SETEC Convention Center in Gangnam, Seoul.

Under the slogan "Connecting Diversity, Embracing Multiculturalism," the event aims to become a leading multicultural festival in South Korea.

The first part of the event will feature the "Multicultural Awards," honoring individuals and organizations that have made significant contributions to multicultural society. Ten recipients will be awarded across two categories: multicultural family support organizations and individuals involved in multicultural support projects.

The second part will include a forum, special lectures, and a talk concert. The forum, themed "The Path We've Walked and the Road Ahead," will explore topics such as cooperation between central and local governments on immigration and foreigner policies. With South Korea nearing a population of 3 million foreign residents, discussions will focus on how local governments can tailor immigration policies to regional needs.

Key speakers include Cho Young-hee from the Immigration Policy Research Institute, Choi Young-il, director of Gimpo City’s Foreign Resident Support Center, and Illya Belyakov, a professor at Suwon University. They will present cases and insights into South Korea’s immigration policies and multicultural realities.

Dr. Oh Eun-young, a psychiatrist and family counseling expert, will deliver a special lecture titled "How to Communicate and Understand Diverse Perspectives." She will address effective communication methods in a multicultural society, focusing on understanding and engaging with multicultural families.

The talk concert, titled "Imagining a Future Together," will be hosted by Oh Jong-cheol, who will interact with participants on-site.

The event is open to organizations and individuals involved in multicultural family support projects. Details can be found on the festival website (https://event-us.kr/kmcf2024/event/91130).

A live broadcast of the event, except for Dr. Oh's lecture, will be available on the "K-VIBE" YouTube channel, run by Yonhap News Agency (https://www.youtube.com/@KVIBE_yonhap).
