SEOUL, May 6 (Yonhap) -- The music video for the new song "Bubble Gum" by K-pop girl group NewJeans has claimed the top spot on various weekly charts on YouTube, announced their agency, ADOR, on the 6th.
The "Bubble Gum" music video topped the weekly charts for popular music videos and songs in Korea. It also ranked 2nd on the global weekly popular music video chart and 5th on the global weekly popular song chart.
With this achievement, NewJeans has demonstrated unwavering popularity despite various rumors surrounding their agency, ADOR.
"Bubble Gum" is a track from their upcoming double single "How Sweet," set to be released on the 24th. NewJeans took a bold move by releasing only the music video before the official release of the song.
Unlike typical K-pop groups, the "Bubble Gum" music video focuses on lyrical visual beauty and natural storytelling rather than performance-centric elements.
Particularly, props such as camcorders, video tapes (VHS), bubble gum, vintage fans, and marbles evoke childhood memories, creating a retro yet sophisticated texture.
"Bubble Gum" creates a refreshing atmosphere with the use of flute sounds and synthesizer, complemented by the members' pure vocals, making it easy to listen to.
NewJeans will release different double singles in Korea and Japan on the 24th and 21st of next month, respectively. They will also hold a large-scale fan meeting at the Tokyo Dome in Japan on the 26th and 27th of the following month.
