SEOUL, May 10 (Yonhap) – Korean American K-pop singer AleXa has won the television broadcasting company NBC’s competition program.
AleXa has become the final winner of NBC’s “American Song Contest,” which was aired throughout the United States on May 10, by beating prominent candidates, according to the agency ZB Label.
The agency explained, “It is the first time that a K-pop artist has won a large-scale audition held in the United States.”
“American Song Contest,” which was first broadcasted in March, 2022, is a program where 56 artists from each state of the United States compete to win the greatest hit song.
AleXa participated in the program, where there are various talented singers, as a representative of the state of Oklahoma.
The singer, who was the only K-pop artist among the participants, previously drew great attention of the local viewers by taking the first place in the audience’s vote with the contest song “Wonderland.”
AleXa was the only one of the ten teams to score 700 points in the final and won the trophy by beating Allen Stone from Washington and Michael Bolton from Connecticut.
The singer shed teasers while grabbing her face when her name was called as the winner.
She said through the agency, “I really didn’t expect this but thank you so much. Thanks to everyone’s support, I was able to perform on the stage until the very last. Thank you once again for giving me such a miraculous gift.”
AleXa made herself known through the Mnet’s audition program “Produce 48” in 2018.
The singer, who debuted in the music scene with the song “Bomb” in 2019, drew attention as the song was named on Billboard’s “World Digital Song Sales” chart at 7th.
AleXa also said during an interview with Yonhap News Agency after advancing to semi-finals in “American Song Contest,” “Since I’m a K-pop artist, I want to show them the ‘special taste’ of K-pop.”
