SEOUL, Sept. 4 (Yonhap) -- Two songs released by world-renowned Swedish pop group ABBA in about 40 years are gaining popularity across generations, according to British news media The Guardian.
“I Still Have Faith in You" and "Don't Shut Me Down,” songs from ABBA's new album “ABBA Voyage,” which will be released on Nov. 5, ranked first and third on YouTube trending in 12 countries, including the U.K.
Of the two songs released on the previous day, "I Still Have Faith in You" had 4.4 million views in the UK alone, while “Don't Shut Me Down" recorded 1.4 million views, according to a report by The Guardian.
In addition, followers on ABBA’s Tik Tok account, which the group opened on Sept. 1, recorded 991,000 followers in three days.
The video clip of the piano performance of "Dancing Queen," which was ABBA’s the first post, also recorded 7.3 million views.
Generation Z fans born in the mid-1990s and early 2000s are also presenting various videos lip-syncing the songs of the movie "Mamma Mia."
Gary Collins, the editor of ABBA’s official international fanclub magazine, said that ABBA’s music was very popular among teenagers because of the group’s cross-generational appeal for fans of all ages to welcome the return of pop legends.
"Music is a means of overcoming difficulties," he said. "People are going through bad times and they are longing for something more enjoyable to come back."
ABBA, which was established in 1972 and gained worldwide popularity, has put a hold on its activities since 1982.
But on the previous day, ABBA announced its comeback in about 40 years. They will release a new album in November and also hold performances by featuring digital avatars in London next May.
