SEOUL, December 8 (Yonhap) -- The movie "Avatar: The Way of Water" (Avatar 2) has been exceeding a 50% reservation rate six days before its premiere, showing signs of great success in Korea.

According to the integrated network of movie tickets by the Korean Film Council on Thursday, "Avatar 2" topped the reservation rate on Thursday at 1:23 p.m., with a 50.1% reservation rate. 163,000 people have made a reservation.

"Avatar 2" has been topping the reservation rate since the start of the ticket release on December 7. The movie "The Owl" ranked second, (15.9% of 51,000 people), but the gap between the two records has been widening.

"Avatar 2" was premiered at the world premiere event, which was held in London, U.K., on December 6 (local time). People showed different opinions regarding the long running time of 3 hours and 12 minutes, but people continued to praise how well the underwater world in the Pandora planet was depicted.

"Avatar 2" is the first sequel to "Avatar" (2009) released by director James Cameron in 13 years. It depicts the journey and battle of the family of Jake Sully (Sam Worthington) and Neytiri (Zoe Saldaña) leaving in search of a new home.
