SEOUL, August 16 (Yonhap) -- 100 photos of Wonju during the Japanese colonial period reflected through the eyes of the missionaries who first visited Wonju, Gangwon, 133 years ago will be released.
The History Museum of Wonju announced on Tuesday that it will be holding a photo exhibition called "Appenzeller and Jones Goes to Wonju."
The opening ceremony will be held in a small scale at 11 a.m. on August 19 to prevent the spread of COVID-19 at Gamyeong, Gangwon.
In the exhibition jointly planned with the Christian Council of Wonju, 100 photos of Wonju during the Japanese colonial period through the eyes of the missionaries Appenzeller and Johnson, who first visited Wonju on August 19, 1889, 133 years ago will be unveiled.
The exhibition will be held over three times. The first exhibition where 20 photos will be revealed will be held at Gangwon Gamyeong, from the August 19 till September 3 under the theme of "Appenzeller and Jones: The First Missionary to Come to Wonju."
The second exhibition, which will feature 30 photos, will be held at Munmak Church from October 28 to November 4 under the theme of "Sowing the seeds of the gospel in the land of Wonju"
The 3rd exhibition will be held from December 8 till February 26 2023 at the special exhibition space of the History Museum under the theme of "Seeing the Wonju of 100 years ago through the eyes of a missionary."
At this exhibition, 50 additional photos, including 50 previously released photos, will be revealed, allowing one to see a total of 100 photos.
