Kdrama 'High School Return of a Gangster' Portrays Heartwarming Story of 'Kkondae'

SEOUL, May 27 (Yonhap) -- OTT series "High School Return of a Gangster," a growth journey of a 19-year-old high school student possessed by the soul of a 47-year-old gangster, will be unveiled on the 29th.

 

The drama revolves around the story of gangster Kim Deuk-pal, who becomes possessed by the body of high school student Song Yi-heon after saving him from an extreme situation. Song Yi-heon, tormented by severe bullying at school and neglected at home, receives help from Kim Deuk-pal, who employs his unique methods to guide Yi-heon towards becoming a complete adult.

 

Yoon Chan-young plays both Kim Deuk-pal and Song Yi-heon. At the drama's production presentation held on the 27th at a hotel in Sangam-dong, Mapo-gu, Seoul, Yoon Chan-young described the series as "a work that combines the fun of various genres including human drama, coming-of-age, fantasy, and action."

He highlighted the intriguing aspect of Kim Deuk-pal growing as Song Yi-heon, stating, "When playing Deuk-pal, I focused on confidence." He added, "While Yi-heon lacks confidence in everything he does, Deuk-pal, being an experienced adult mingling with high school students, is very confident. He gives straightforward advice and educates the students as a life mentor."

 

Veteran actor Lee Seo-jin makes a special appearance as the adult Kim Deuk-pal, who, despite being a gangster, has a firm belief in protecting the weak.

 

Yoon Chan-young shared, "I tried to mimic senior Lee Seo-jin's mannerisms and speech in everyday life, to the point where his speech patterns stuck with me for a while," showing a lighthearted moment.

 

Director Lee Sung-taek commented, "Although Deuk-pal might seem like an old-fashioned figure who earnestly strives for the kids, he possesses a warmth of his own. He helps kids on the wrong path by guiding them to the right way, embodying a good adult."

 

He added, "I hope viewers will ponder what it means to be a good adult while watching the show."

 

"High School Return of a Gangster" will be simultaneously released on Wavve, TVING, and Watcha on the 29th.
