CHEONGDO·ANDONG·GIMCHEON, Jan. 19 (Yonhap) -- The Lunar New Year's Daljip Burning Event in Cheongdo, Gyeongsang Province, which boasts the largest scale in the country, will not be held for four years.

Folk Hanmadang Event, which was scheduled to be held on Feb. 15, in time for the first full moon of the lunar year, was canceled according to Cheongdo County on Wednesday.  

 

Cheongdo County held folk events such as Daljip Burning and fireworks at the foot of Cheongdo-cheon Stream every year on the fifteenth of the first lunar month. 

The district attracted great attention every year by burning the nation's largest moon house with a height of 20m, a width of 15m, and a weight of 250t from the foot of Cheongdo-cheon Stream.

However, after the last event in 2018, the ceremony has not been held due to concerns over the spread of COVID-19.

Daljip Burning refers to the seasonal custom of burning a pile of branches (daljip) on the night of the fifteenth of the first lunar month when the moon rises.
