SEOUL, Apr. 20 (Yonhap) -- The 2024 S/S Seoul Fashion Week will be held at Dongdaemun Design Plaza (DDP) for 5 days from September 5, the Seoul Metropolitan Government announced Thursday.
With the ever-growing influence of Korean culture on the global market, the Seoul Fashion Week will be held prior to the Fashion Weeks that are scheduled to be held in other major international cities, including New York, London, Milan, and Paris (September 7 to October 3). This event aims to reaffirm the position of the South Korean event as Asia’s leading fashion program.
More than 100 fashion brands (35 fashion shows and 70 trade shows) will be showcased throughout the week. Meanwhile, the Seoul Fashion Week will be taking applications from national and international brands from April 21 to May 12 at its official website.
The city will focus on expanding the business distribution network of domestic fashion brands, as well as promoting a close relationship between art and fashion, increasing the number of collaboration projects between companies and designers, investing in in-person B2B events, and giving a positive fillip to domestic and foreign sales.
Chinese buyers, who have been unable to visit Korea due to the then-ongoing COVID-19 restrictions, will be invited to the trade show where leading overseas buyers and highly acclaimed domestic designers will be able to take personal orders. In the meantime, the Fashion Week will be increasing the number of brands participating in its in-person trade shows from 40 to 70.
The Open Collaboration event will be held for the third time, in an attempt to offer opportunities to plan and make deals for collaboration projects between domestic and international companies and designers. During the trade shows, brands will be able to have a presentation on their unique, sparkling ideas to firms.
In order to expand overseas business, the Seoul Fashion Week will also be supporting brands that wish to participate in the forthcoming COTERIE New York, which touts itself as a representative fashion expo for the Americas that host fashion shows, competitions, workshops, and an on-site marketplace, for the very first time.
Around 8 designers among the Seoul Collection and Generation Next Brands will be named during the Seoul Fashion Week to attend the COTERIE New York in September. Moreover, brands participating in the Corporate Brand Fashion Show, Trade Show Open Collaboration, and Corporate Public Relations Hall will also be open for application to offer opportunities to cooperate with diverse large-and-medium-sized companies.
Details are available on the Seoul Fashion Week’s official website.
“Seoul Fashion Week has become an iconic global platform that the city supports to revitalize the domestic fashion industry,” said Song Ho-jae, head of Seoul Metropolitan Government’s economic and recruitment division.
