SEOUL, Jan. 4 (Yonhap) -- Ulsan Namgu Management Corporation announced on Wednesday that number of visitors to Jangsaengpo Whale Culture Zone has surpassed 1.2 million last year.

According to the corporation, anuall visitors exceeding 1.2 million is the highest record in 14 years since Jangsaengpo was designated as the whale culture zone in 2008.

The corporation evaluated that the demand for domestic tourism increased with the ease of social distancing last year, and the number of visitors from other cities increased with the influence of hit drama about whales before summer peak season.

The company also explained that operating stay type tourism item with hotel, conducting various events like "Let's go to hocance by riding Whales sea travel line," and holding "2022 Ulsan Whale Festival," which took place in person for the first time in three years, had positive effects on the increased number of visitors.

Whale Sea Travel line was sailed 161 times, the highest number during the past five years.

79,000 paid visits to Jangsengpo Whalley Kids Land, achieving its highest record since it it opened in 2018.
