SEOUL, Dec. 15 (Yonhap) -- Distributor Showbox announced to postpone the release date of the film “Emergency Declaration”, due to the spread of the new COVID-19 Omicron variant. The new film was expected to hit the theaters in January 2022.
“Industries are strengthening pandemic measures with the variant spreading rapidly so we decided to postpone the release date," said Showbox, on Wednesday.
“Theaters are where films can truly shine,” added Showbox. They will release the new film when it is easier for moviegoers to visit the cinemas.
“Emergency Declaration” is a disaster film that centers on a plane headed to Hawaii suddenly announcing an emergency landing.
The film was chosen as the most anticipated movie to be released in next year's cinemas with director Han Jae-rim, producer of “The Face Reader” (2013) and “The King” (2017), and the star-studded cast including Song Kang-ho, Lee Byung-hun, Jeon Do-yeon, Yim Si-wan, and Kim Nam-gil.
The upcoming film was also invited to the Cannes Film Festival in July as a non-competitive selection.
