By Chung Joo-won
SEOUL, Aug. 21 (Yonhap) -- K-pop boy band VANNER blasted the media showcases stage on Monday with its first mini album, ready to claim this summer’s peak season with powerful dance songs.
After a hiatus of 1 year and 6 months, VANNER came back with new album "VENI VIDI VICI," Latin for "I came, I saw, I conquered."
After a passionate comeback stage in Seoul, VANNER’s leader Taehwan said the album’s concept is “sexy and cool,” meant to make “honest, active” appeal to the audience.
VANNER, a combination of "victory" and "banner," debuted in early 2019, and gained popularity as the final winner of JTBC's music competition show "Peaktime.”
Yeongkwang, VANNER’s youngest, said, “After Peaktime, we were not only thankful but also pressured to entertain the fans with better stage.”
VANNER’s six-song mini album includes lively and dynamic title track "Performer," an upbeat pop dance song that combines punk and electronic elements. Groovy bass and synth sounds in the chorus blend together, expressing VANNER's characteristic refreshing energy.
"Diamonds” is a pop number with cheerful guitar and bass sound and rhythmical drum beats, and "TBH” is marked by its funky sound and unique lyrics. Love song "Savior" is dedicated to the fans who have stood by them, and “Form” is a 2023 version of its previous hit of the same name.
"Want U Back," with lyrics and arrangement by MOSTA X’s Hyungwon, is highlighted by addictive hooks. Gon, the main rapper and main dancer of the group, co-participated in the choreography of the song.
He said, “I tried to highlight each member’s strength in ‘Want You Back. Because I know their personalities very well, I was able to put their characteristics into the song.” He added, “We thank MONSTA X’s Hyungwon for the song. The lyrics is about ‘I am the only true love for you.’”
The group said the subtitles of each song’s concept incorporate "VVS," the name of VANNER's fandom, expressing gratitude and love for their fans’ support.
The album features hit song makers from both domestic and international scenes, including STEREO14, Ryan Jhun, GALATIKA, MONSTA X's Hyungwon, according to VANNER’s management, Klap Entertainment. VANNER members also participated in songwriting.
VANNER’s new album is set to be released online at 6 p.m.
