'SIDdance,' dance festival to be held on and offline

SEOUL, Sep. 23 (Yonhap) -- “SIDance,” Seoul International Dance Festival, which is South Korea’s biggest dance festival, will be opened next month amid the COVID-19 pandemic.

The 24th SIDance will be held in a mixed on and offline form at the CJ Towol Theater in the Seoul Arts Center, Sogang University’s Marry Hall and Daehakro Arts Theater between Oct. 16 and Nov. 14, according to the CID-UNESCO World Congress in Seoul Thursday.

SIDance, born in 1998, has been commented that it has upgraded the South Korean dance scene’s sight introducing variously the world’s contemporary dances’ masterpieces. This year dancers from 14 countries including Belgium, Spain and Italy will participate.

This year’s festival is composed special programs such as special inviting of local dances and Focus Benelux (Belgium Netherlands Luxembrook), International Performances, Domestic Performances and line-up of producers.

An online program introducing international dance work videos using performance videos, dance films and documentaries is prepared as well.

Local dance teams will be introduced as well. Daegu City Dance Company, Gyeonggido Dance Company, Cheongju Dance Company and dancers such as 최재희 이혜경 Jung Eun-hee Chang Yoo-kyung be on stage.

Also international performances which were suspended to the pandemic will be resumed. Dance works of Vietnamese Belgian Thi-Mai Niguyen and Spanish Lali Ayguadé will be introduced.

Viewers can enjoy contents such as “Dance Eat Song” putting on dances to trend songs, “SIDance Tomorrow” that supports young dancers and “Dancer Jang Yoon-na” who shows the power of a star dancer.
