SEOUL October 28 (Yonhap) -- American artist Jose Parla from Cuban immigrant family is known for combining street art and calligraphic images to create sculptures, murals and more.

Known for his work located within the lobby of World Trade Center in New York, Manhattan, went through three months of coma due to COVID 19.

Through his fight against COVID19, artist described 3 months of his coma as continuum of numerous dreams, even after he woke up from his coma he had hard time recognizing the reality and his dream, artist even had hard time breathing.

These life changing events were transferred on to his work on canvas.

Jose Parla’s solo exhibition “Breathing” which is being held at the Gana Art Center located within the Jongno district Seoul, showcases brand new pieces by the artist which encompasses his understanding and realization of the new meaning of “Breathing.”

The Series “Breathing” showcased within the exhibition “Breathing” by Jose Parla was drawn while the artist was recovering from the Covid19. Since the artist is portraying the land of unconsciousness, unlike his previous artworks, the breathing series comes towards the viewers in more lively matter with more vivid coloring. Lively lines, drawn on top of the canvas portray the rhythm of inhalation and exhalation, air circulation shown through artist body, and the energy created by the air flow.

Throughout the exhibition “Breathing” some of the sculptures which encompasses his original form which is street art, will be showcased for the first time in South Korea. The exhibited sculpture reminds of a city wall in United States filled with graffiti.

Exhibition “Breathing” by artist Jose Parla will continue on until December 4.
