SEOUL, September 5 (Yonhap) -- Girl group BLACKPINK's new song "Pink Venom"s has been excluded from the chart of S.Korean music program "Music Bank" after it was decided "unsuitable" based on KBS's self-censorship.
According to the music industry on Monday, "Pink Venom" was excluded from "Music Bank"'s K-Chart for the first week of September.
BLACKPINK's "Lovesick Girls" released in 2020 and "As If It's Your Last" released in 2017 stayed on the chart even after many years, ranking 38th and 40th.
"Pink Venom" is considered unusual in that It is sweeping the domestic music charts while also gaining global popularity such as topping the US Billboard's main single Hot 100 chart.
The song has also topped in other music programs such as MBC M's "Show Champion," Mnet's "M Countdown," and SBS's "Inkigayo."
KBS official said, "The song could not be charted after it was decided that it cannot be aired."
"Pink Venom" was decided "unsuitable" for violating "Article 46 of the Broadcasting Review Regulations, such as mentioning the specific brand," according to KBS's 'Gayo Review Results' on Aug. 24.
It is likely that mentioning of French luxury brand "Celine" in the lyrics was problematic.
It is common for the agencies to revise the problematic part and request review again, since TV is the main channel to promote songs. But YG Entertainment did not request a reconsideration.
There is an interpretation that this is because BLACKPINK does not appear on KBS' "Music Bank" anyway, and they do not have to dwell on topping domestic music programs.
BLACKPINK has appeared on the domestic music program, SBS "Inkigayo," only once due to a tight schedule such as the MTV Video Music Awards (VMA) performance and the shooting of music video, to be released this month,
It is analyzed that YG Entertainment, to cope with BLACKPINK's changed status, focused on global promotion for global chart rankings like US Billboard and UK official charts,YouTube, VMA rather than domestic programs.
BLACKPINK will release their second full album "BORN PINK" on Sept. 16 and go on a world tour starting in Seoul next month, traveling around North America, Europe, Asia and Oceania.
