SEOUL, Oct. 22 (Yonhap) -- The non-verbal performance "Nanta," which was suspended due to the widespread of the novel COVID-19, will resume in 21 months.
"'Nanta' will be open to the audience at the Myeongdong NANTA Theatre in Seoul between Dec. 2-31," according to the production company PMC Production on Friday.
"Nanta," produced by actor Song Seung-hwan, is a representative performance within Hallyu or the "Korean Wave" and has surpassed 14 million cumulative audiences through touring 318 cities in 58 countries around the world since its premiere in 1997. "
This is Korea's first non-verbal play that presents a powerful performance of "Samul nori," a traditional Korean music genre, using kitchen utensils like knives, cutting boards, and plates. The unique performance has been steadily loved by domestic and foreign audiences.
However, after the COVID-19 outbreak, the NANTA Theatre in Myeongdong has been closed since last March.
"We decided to resume showcasing performances in anticipation of larger audiences visiting the theatre in accordance with the 'living with COVID-19' policy as coronavirus restrictions are slowly phasing out," the production company explained.
"Nanta," which will be marking its 25th anniversary next year, plans to catch the attention of audiences with an upgraded version of drum performances and impressive video techniques.
