SEOUL, Sep. 8 (Yonhap) -- The prosecutors asked the court to sentence Wheesung (real name Choi Whee-sung) to three-years of prison for having frequently administered propofol, a drug used to put a patient under anesthesia, during the appeal trial held at the Daegu District Court Wednesday.

“I admit my misdeeds and feel ashamed. I have been receiving treatments for insomnia, panic disorder and depression for one year and seven months. I will do my best to live by the social norms. I beg for merciful judgements,” pleaded Wheesung appealed at the trial.

He was sentenced to one year in prison, two years of probation, 40 hours of community service, and 40 hours of medication lectures in the first trial.

However, the prosecution filed an appeal saying that the sentences of the first trial were too light.

Earlier, the first trial court said, "It seems that the defendant has fallen into addiction in the process of being treated for insomnia and depression. He felt extreme pressure from the nature of his job of having to gain consistent love from the public and having been able to be criticized by the public for every single action.”

The sentencing for Wheesung will take place in the morning of Oct. 13.
