Seoul, March 8th (Yonhap) -- JYP Entertainment's rock band, Day6's Sung-jin has officially joined the military on March 8th.

The management agency announced that "Sung-jin entered the military training center located in Inje of Gangwon Province on Monday."

"We have decided not to schedule public appearances or events in order to prevent the spread of the corona virus and respect Sung-jin's wish to enter the military privately," they added.

Earlier today, Sung-jin surprised fans on a live video streaming app V LIVE saying, "The date for my enlistment was set a month ago. I postponed the release of this announcement in order to enter the military in private."

"I'll return safely and take care of myself," he said. "I've finished working on my part for the upcoming album and I will continue to be a member of Day6 after I return from the military."

The 28-year-old singer debuted as Day6's vocalist and leader in 2015. The rock band has released popular songs such as "You Were Beautiful", "Zombie", and "Time of Our Life" over the years.

In S. Korea, military service is mandatory for almost all males and they are required to serve in the army for 18 months.
