SEOUL, Mar. 4 (Yonhap) -- Korean romance dramas have been drawing attention as they entered the world’s TOP 10 TV shows on Netflix.
According to the data released by streaming analytics company “FlixPatrol” on Friday, SBS’ drama “A Business Proposal” ranked No. 9 on TOP TV Shows on Netflix on Mar. 3.
“A Business Proposal” starring Kim Se-jeong and Ahn Hyo-seop is a romance drama based on the popular web novel and webtoon, and it depicts the romance between the ordinary businesswoman Shin Ha-ri(Kim Se-jeong) and her boss Kang Tae-mu(Ahn Hyo-seop) going on a blind date.
According to the rankings by country, the drama is gaining popularity mainly in Asia, ranking No. 1 in Indonesia and the Philippines and No. 2 in Malaysia, Singapore, Thailand and Vietnam. It ranked No. 3 in South Korea.
While Netflix's original series "Squid Game" and "All of Us Are Dead" received great attention worldwide, romance dramas released simultaneously on Korean broadcasting companies and Netflix have drawn constant attention in Asian countries.
JTBC’s drama “Thirty-Nine” starring Son Ye-jin, which recently aired its first episode, ranked No. 8 on Feb. 25, while tvN’s drama “Twenty-Five Twenty-One” starring Kim Tae-ri and Nam Joo-hyuk also ranked No. 10 on Mar. 1.
Earlier, romance dramas, such as “Hometown Cha-Cha-Cha,” “The King's Affection,” and “Our Beloved Summer,” steadily entered the TOP 10, displaying the potential of Korean romance dramas.
Meanwhile, "All of Us Are Dead" ranked 6th, and "Juvenile Justice” starring Kim Hye-soo ranked 7th on Thursday.
