SEOUL, April 23 (Yonhap) -- South Korean music streaming platform Melon, operated by Kakao Entertainment, announced Wednesday that its indie music initiative "TrackZero" is celebrating its third anniversary.
Launched in April 2022, TrackZero is a project dedicated to shedding light on hidden indie gems — the first of its kind among Korean streaming platforms.
As part of the project, Melon has introduced a new indie playlist every Thursday via the main page of its mobile app. Over the past three years, the platform has showcased more than 1,700 songs by over 1,000 indie artists.
In addition to playlists, Melon has operated a namesake segment within its audio content platform Melon Station, where curated indie tracks are featured.
Since February 2023, the platform has further boosted visibility for indie musicians by selecting a monthly “Artist of the Month” and introducing new releases under “TrackZero Recommended Songs.” Melon has also sponsored the live club festival in Seoul’s Hongdae area in partnership with the Kakao Creative Foundation.
