SEOUL, July 1 (Yonhap) -- "There's nothing STAYC can't do. Being able to adapt to anything is our unique strength," says Sieun.
On the 1st, girl group STAYC held a showcase in Gwangjin-gu, Seoul, to celebrate the release of their first full-length album, 'Metamorphic.' Reflecting on their previous works 'Bubble' and 'Teddy Bear,' which earned them the title of 'healing idols,' they emphasized the new and diverse changes they’ve embraced in this album.
In line with the album's title, which signifies 'change,' STAYC has focused on showcasing a new charm that transcends their previous 'teen-fresh' concept. "We are thrilled to release our first full album, which we have prepared for a long time. As the album title suggests, you will hear STAYC's transformed music, including our first self-written fan song, solo tracks, and unit songs," said Sumin.
Sieun explained, "Until now, we've shown a bright and lively side through healing energy. This time, we aimed to present a unique and bold image."
The album includes the title track 'Cheeky Icy Thang,' which opens a new chapter for the group, along with 'Twenty,' '1 Thing,' 'Give It 2 Me,' and 'Let Me Know,' among others. The fan song 'Stay WITH Me,' with lyrics written by all members, is also featured.
'Cheeky Icy Thang' is a synth-pop song that blends STAYC's cool and daring charm, characterized by an exciting shuffle rhythm. Black Eyed Pilseung, the head producer of High Up Entertainment, participated in writing and composing the song.
In the music video, Seeun even tried 'bold' facial expressions she doesn't usually do. The 'meow' sound at the end of her part was recorded over 500 times to achieve the perfect take.
STAYC debuted in 2020 with 'SO BAD' and gained popularity with catchy hits like 'ASAP,' 'Run2U,' and 'Teddy Bear.' Earlier this year, they embarked on their first world tour, meeting fans around the globe.
This summer, STAYC is set to compete for the 'summer queen' title against fellow girl groups BABYMONSTER and KISS OF LIFE, who are also making comebacks. "Although our comeback coincides with theirs, we feel more excitement than pressure. We really enjoy and admire groups like KISS OF LIFE and BABYMONSTER," said Sieun.
"Our goal is to captivate the public's attention with our unique and evolved image, in line with the album's title, 'Metamorphic,'" she added.
