SEOUL, Feb. 10(Yonhap) – The Korea Agro-Fisheries & Food Trade Corp.(aT) announced on Feb. 9(KST) that the resolution has been passed to designate Nov. 22 as "Kimchi Day,” which stipulates that Kimchi is originated from Korea, by the Virginia General Assembly of the United States.
Kimchi Day(Nov. 22) is a national holiday enacted in Korea in 2020 to promote the value of Kimchi, and a related resolution was passed by the California State Assembly in August, 2021.
The resolution, which was voted in favor this time, contains the history of Kimchi and its excellence as a functional food.
Last year, the exports of Kimchi to the United States reached $28.25 million, which increased nearly 22.5% from 2020.
Kim Chun-jin, the CEO of aT, said, "We received a great help from Lee Soo-hyuk, the ambassador to the United States, in designating Kimchi Day,” adding, “The minister will also try to designate Kimchi Day in New York, New Jersey, and Washington, D.C.”
