SEOUL March 4 (Yonhap) -- At a debut showcase held on March 4 for SM Entertainment's latest boy group NCT WISH members expressed their goal of becoming the best rookies in both South Korea and Japan in 2024.

Member Sion stated, "We want to become a group when fans think of while making wishes. We are a team with a dream of supporting everyone's wishes through music and love." He introduced the team's icon as a star shape.

NCT WISH is composed of six members: Sion and Jaehee from Korea, and Riku, Yushi, Ryo, and Sakuya from Japan. They are the final team of NCT.

While based in Japan, NCT WISH will actively perform and actively participate in programs in South Korea. This strategy sets them apart, as idol groups typically debut in one country and then expand globally based on their success.

Japanese members Sakuya and Yushi mentioned that they were inspired to pursue K-pop due to their parents' love for the genre. Ryo shared that he was cast by SM Entertainment after attending an NCT 127 concert with his sister.

NCT WISH's debut single “WISH” aims to spread a message of hope to fans worldwide, showcasing the team's refreshing color.

The title track “WISH” is a medium-tempo dance song based on old-school hip-hop, featuring energetic hooks, a sentimental melody, and clear, emotional vocals. The members convey a message of moving forward with the wind (WISH) into a new future.

Riku stated, "The performance of 'WISH' is powerful and full of our passion. There are many parts where you can feel the energy, from the large-scale performance and in the enjoyable and dynamic movements."

To support their debut, SM’s artist BoA took on the role of producer. BoA, who achieved significant success in both Korea and Japan in the 2000s, is well-suited for producing NCT WISH's debut with a strategy targeting both markets. BoA also served as an artist director on the SM survival program “NCT Universe: LASTAR,” which led to the debut of NCT WISH.

BoA, attended the showcase and addressed, "NCT Wish, Being a team that actively promotes in both South Korea and Japan, I thought of the times when I traveled between the two countries. I wanted to contribute to guiding NCT WISH in the right direction and helping them grow."

BoA continued by stating, "The song of NCT WISH is easy for everyone to listen to, selecting an easy listening style that shows their unique style.” adding “The performance incorporates the energetic DNA of NCT. The powerful, unified choreography stands out, just like one would expect from other NCT teams."

NCT WISH made their debut at the SM Town concert held at Tokyo Dome on March 21. They will hold a fan event for domestic fans at 8 p.m. on the same day at Blue Square Mastercard Hall in Yongsan-gu, Seoul.

Sion shared his joy about debuting at Tokyo Dome, saying, "I am happy to debut at Tokyo Dome. In the past, I watched a concert at Tokyo Dome with Sakuya and told him, 'Let's perform at the Tokyo Dome together.' I am happy that the dream came true.”
