SEOUL, Mar. 15 (Yonhap) -- The demand for overseas travel is exploding since the government decided to exempt vaccinated foreign entrants from self-quarantine obligations, starting from March 21.
The number of overseas ticket reservations for the Interpark Tour from March 11~13 jumped 281% from the same period last month and 873% from the same period last year, respectively, according to the travel industry, Tuesday.
The government announced the quarantine exemption on March 11.
The market share of each overseas airline route, scheduled for March 11~13, was counted in the order of the Americas (39.1%), Europe (31.5%), Southeast Asia (18.9%), Oceania (6.9%), and Japan (3.3%).
Interpark Tour explained that the popularity of vacation spots such as Hawaii on the US route and Guam and Saipan was particularly noticeable.
Among the long-distance routes, Barcelona in Spain, and Zurich in Switzerland, were popular.
Travel agencies are beginning to meet demand through promotional events.
Hana Tour is opening an “Online Honeymoon Fair” (translated) for Maldives, Cancun Mexico, and Hawaii for a month in March.
Mode Tour is also offering a limited-time offer that sells travel products from Southeast Asia, Europe, and the South Pacific at up to 31% cheaper prices.
Very Good Tour said 21 customers departing to Greece on Mar. 25 and 26 customers to Turkey on Mar. 30 have been confirmed to travel according to the announcement of quarantine exemption guidelines.
