Promotional video of Gwangju City, BTS J-Hope's hometown, reaches over 2.87 mln YouTube views

SEOUL, Nov. 2 (Yonhap) -- A promotional video of Gwangju City which BTS’s J-Hope is from is gaining interest by using the artist.

The city officials uploaded a video titled “Finding Hope-To Gwangju in Search of Hope” on their official YouTube Channel on October 25th, according to the city Tuesday.

The video has marked over 2.87 million views (about 2,875,000) as of Tuesday afternoon.

It is a V-log form of video in which a foreign ARMY sees “an article about ‘J-Hope’s Hometown, Gwangju, Opens J-Hope Street” and visits the city to tour around, according to the explanation beneath the video.

It uses keywords for the lyrics and titles of of the band’s songs to deliver Gwangju’s story.

Through the lyrics that tell the listeners to fall in from “Dionysus” shows the taste of Gwanju foods and “Spring Day” reminds of that the city is the place where a pro-democracy protest took place.

“The beginning of the universe” from “DNA”’s lyrics shows Gwangju’s mother-mountain, Mudeungsan National Park.

There were praising comments for the video such as “Hobie (Korean fans’ adoring way of calling J-Hope) is the legend of Gwangju and BTS is the pride of Korea,” “Jung Ho-seok (J-Hope’s real name), son of Gwangju” and “Thank you for showing Gwangju Hobie is singing of in a meaningful way.”

“As BTS is planning a tour concert in the U.S. in December, there may have been some positive effects. We will consistently strive to develop familiar contents that can connect Gwangju City and the world in the “Living with COVID-19”-era,” said an official from the city.
