Ian Bostridge to perform in Korea for the first time in three years

SEOUL, Nov. 23 (Yonhap) -- English tenor Ian Charles Bostridge, known as a "singing philosopher," will meet Korean fans for the first time in three years.

Performance agency InArts Production announced on Friday that Bostridge will perform at Lotte Concert Hall with all programs of Schubert's Die Winterreise on Dec. 3.

Song cycle "Die Winterreise" is a piece Schubert wrote at the end of his life.
It is a love song in which heartbroken protagonist wanders aimlessly in the lonely winter and goes back and forth between the complex world of dreams inside him and the bitter reality he faces.

This is Bostridge's first performance in Korea in three years after his performance at Seoul Arts Center in 2019.

Bostridge worked as a scholar but after a private lesson, he became a tenor. Earning a degree in philosophy at Cambridge University and a doctorate in history at University of Oxford, He was teaching history at Oxford University, but after a private lesson, he decided to live his life as a vocalist.

Debuted in 1993 at Wingmore Hall in London, he received Gramaphone Solo Vocal with Schubert's song cycle "Die Schone Mullerin," which he released with Hyperion label in 1996. He also conquered main awards including Gramophone Solo Vocal with Schumann's song cycle "A Poet's Love" released in 1998.
