SEOUL, June 13 (Yonhap) -- The 1st Gongju Yugu saek-dong Hydrangea Garden Flower Festival will be held from the 17th till the 19th at the Hydrangea Garden in Yugu saek-dong, Gongju city, South Chungcheong province, the largest hydrangea attraction in the central region.
According to Gongju city on the 13th, this festival, which is held as the representative summer festival of the region, is operated with zones including the experience zone, landscape zone with various attractions, a fun zone, and a direct market for agriculture.
At the opening ceremony held on the main stage of the Yugu Traditional Market Plaza at 7 p.m. on the 17th, "Untie the Hydrangea Knot" performance will be held, reminiscing the history of Yugu Textiles that led the revival of the domestic textile industry by unraveling the knot of Saekdongcheon (a rainbow-striped garment cloth) that are in harmony with the hydrangeas.
A performance by the popular singer Jung-In and V.O.S Park Ji-heon will be held for the opening celebration performance, and a variety of midsummer night concerts will be held during the festival, including the performance by a local artist, fringe.
A photo contest will also be held from the 17th till the 30th, where one can receive a prize by posting a photo taken at the Hydrangea Garden on their social media.
Various cultural and art programs including making a hydrangea bouquet, flower crown, postcards, paper art will be available for the visitors.
"Not only will we do our best to prepare beautiful sights for spectators, but we will also contribute to the revitalization of the local economy," a city official said.
The Yugu Saek-dong Hydrangea Garden, created in 2018 along the Yugucheon waterfront space, is 43,000 square meters in size, and 16,000 hydrangeas of 22 species are expected to be in full bloom during the festival.
