SEOUL November 28 (Yonahp) -- Scammers who took investors' money by lying to their investors on properties which is impossible to develop has been handed over to the prosecutor’s office.
According to the Suseo Police station on Monday, officers have handed over 20 of the related scammers under the charge of Fraud under the Aggravated Punishment of Specific Economic Crimes Act, violation of the Agricultural Land Act, on November 24.
Scammers are getting accused of lying to investors on lands located within Songpa and Gangdong district of Seoul, Wonju or Gangwon province, and more and received over 25 billion won from over 3000 victims.
Lands which scammers advertised and sold are considered Biotope, which are bio living space located within the city, therefore it is protected under the law as undevelopable area.
Police received a complaint regarding the fraud on July of 2021, and went straight under the investigation, and handed 10 of the scammers to the prosecutor’s office, however on December of 2021, Supreme Prosecutor’s Office Republic of Korea, requested supplementary investigation, therefore the police force went on another year of investigation regarding the case. Later on they handed 20 of the scammers to the prosecutor’s office.
Member of the K-pop girl group Girls’ Generation’s TaeYeon is known as one of the victims of the fraud.
