SEOUL, Sept. 24 (Yonhap) -- tvN drama “Bon Appetit, Your Majesty” has been named the most-watched non-English series on Netflix worldwide for the second consecutive week.
According to Netflix’s official site Tudum on Wednesday, the fantasy period drama logged 6.5 million views — calculated by dividing watch hours by running time — last week, securing the No. 1 spot in the non-English TV category. It also ranked first in 23 countries, including Peru, Venezuela, Japan and Saudi Arabia.
The series debuted at fourth place in its opening week, then climbed to second in its second week before reaching No. 1 in its fourth week as word-of-mouth spread.
Based on a web novel, the story follows modern-day chef Yeon Ji-young (played by Im Yoon-ah), who is transported to the Joseon Dynasty and tasked with preparing daily meals for gourmet tyrant King Lee Heon (Lee Chae-min). Rich food depictions and lighthearted storytelling have fueled its popularity.
Meanwhile, “You and Everything Else” starring Kim Go-eun and Park Ji-hyun placed fifth in the same non-English TV category.
In the English-language films category, Netflix’s animated feature “K-pop Demon Hunters” continued its strong run in its 14th week, ranking second with 21.2 million views.
