SEOUL, Aug. 12 (Yonhap) --

Events will be held to showcase the beauty and elegance of Korea’s iconic palaces, such as Gyeongbok Palace and Changdeok Palace.

The Korea Heritage Service (KHS) and the Korea Heritage Agency (KH) said on Tuesday they will hold the "Moonlight tour at Changdeok Palace" every Thursday to Sunday from Sept. 4 to Oct. 26.

The night tour program, held at Changdeok Palace — praised as the "most Korean palace" — allows visitors to explore major halls such as Injeongjeon, Nakseonjae and Yeongyeongdang while carrying traditional lanterns and enjoying traditional performances. Participants will also tour the rear garden, where past kings enjoyed the natural scenery.

The moonlight tour will be held in paid sessions, divided into two parts with six runs a day, each accommodating 25 people. Those wishing to participate must first apply via Ticketlink between 2 p.m. on the 13th and 11:59 p.m. on the 19th, with one application allowed per account. Winners can reserve tickets between 2 p.m. on the 22nd and the 26th, while remaining seats will be sold on a first-come, first-served basis from 2 p.m. on the 27th. People aged 65 or older, persons with disabilities and national merit recipients can make reservations by phone (☎ 1588-7890).

A KHS official said, "A total of 4,650 people will be able to participate in the second half of this year. Visitors will be able to vividly experience the charm of cultural heritage under the tranquil moonlight of the old palaces."

Special sessions for foreigners will be held on Sept. 28 and Oct. 5, 12 and 19.

At Gyeongbok Palace, the main royal palace of the Joseon Dynasty, an event will take place at Saenggwabang, the royal kitchen where special desserts for the royal family were prepared.

Participants will be able to enjoy royal desserts and medicinal tea based on historical records such as the Annals of the Joseon Dynasty and Donguibogam, and take photos at an autumn-themed photo zone.
