SEOUL, June 18 (Yonhap) -- The South Korean office of the U.N. refugee agency said Thursday it has launched this year's brand campaign, titled "Yunanhae," with Lee Chan-hyuk of sibling duo AKMU.

 

The campaign name is short for the Korean phrase meaning "be together with UNHCR" and reinterprets the often cynical label of being "overly concerned" as a proud and meaningful commitment by those who speak out on refugee issues.

 

The campaign seeks to raise public awareness and solidarity for forcibly displaced people around the world while prompting reflection on how society views those who support refugee-related causes.

 

UNHCR Korea said the campaign aims to deliver the message that empathizing with others' suffering and taking action are not excessive acts, but rather a special and beautiful form of solidarity that makes society warmer.

 

In remarks released by UNHCR, Lee said, "Helping others and empathizing with the pain of the world can sometimes be seen as being overly concerned."

 

"But I believe that this steadfast determination to hold on to one's convictions without being swayed by others' opinions is the most powerful force for changing the world," he said, adding that he hopes more people will join the "extraordinary" journey with UNHCR.

 

AKMU's album "Gaehwa," released in April, includes the song "Refugees' Festival."

 

Campaign videos and information on supporting refugees are available through the official website and Instagram account of UNHCR Korea.

 

The organization said the campaign will be introduced through television, radio, YouTube and various social media platforms starting Thursday.

 

It added that Lee's unique perspective and ability to spread messages are expected to help lower the psychological barriers many people have toward refugees.
