SEOUL, May 23 (Yonhap) -- S. Korean singer Kassy introduced the song at the press conference held for the release of the new digital single "LOVE & HATE" on May 23, saying, "The feelings of love and breakup are all about the same," adding, "I made the song with the thought of maximizing this difference."
It is the singer’s first song in about seven months since the mini album "Old story,” which was dropped in October, 2021, highlighting the beginning and end of love with double title songs. Both songs were composed by K-pop hit song maker Cho Yeong-su and written by Kassy.
“Don’t wanna leave tonight” depicts the happiness and excitement of starting love, while “HATE YOU” expresses the desperate feelings experienced when ending a relationship.
Kassy said, "I prepared ‘Don’t wanna leave tonight’ first, and I came up with an idea of releasing a dramatically contrasting song in the process of working on it," adding, "I also wanted to write a song with the mood experienced right before the breakup, so the album came out as double title songs.
The singer took jacket photos with the song “Don’t wanna leave tonight” in mind, and Cho captured the double-sided moments in Kassy’s face and started composing the second song.
She explained, "Don’t people have a lot of things to say when they are about to break up but end up saying nothing?" adding, "I wrote down these feelings on my note pad, and it became a lyric after developing it.”
Kassy, who debuted with the single “In My Bed” in 2015, has drawn attention by entering the music charts with various songs, including “The day was beautiful” and “I will light your way.” In February, the singer also topped the chart with “Always love you,” which shed light on the song of composer Cho Yeong-su, who leads the agency Nextar Entertainment,
The singer said, "In fact, my voice is optimized for lonely songs, and Cho gave a compliment that it also goes well with bright songs, such as 'Don’t wanna leave tonight,’” adding, "I hope I can be happy through bright songs."
