Minister Park Bo-gyoon will take public opinion into consideration on matters of BTS members military duties

SEOUL, Aug. 6 (Yonhap) -- To a question asked during the meeting held for pop music industry at Copyright Protection Division in Seoul on Friday, requesting a precocious conclusion related to military duties of public personal, minister of culture, sports and tourism Park Bo-gyoon aligned his opinion with the ministry of defense, in a sense that they will take in the public opinion in to consideration on the matter of public media celebrities such as K-pop giant BTS and their special exemption from the military duties.

Some of the participants at the meeting raised examples of different cases of exemption of military duties in different departments and the fairness and equality between departments to strengthen their suggestion on how the infrastructure to apply exemption of military duty to public personal should be made.

Kim Chang-hwan, the representative of Korean Music Content Association, Yoon Dong-hwan, the representative of Record Label Industry Association Of Korea, Kim Tae-ho, COO of HYBE, the CFO of SM Entertainment, Managing director of YG Entertainment and other record label personals attended the meeting on Friday.

Throughout the meeting, loosening the music video regulations, standard contract between entertainment agencies and broadcasting services, percentage rearrangement of neighboring copyrights of artist, request to make South Korean pop music database, cracking down on black market for concert tickets, financial support for renting out a concert hall, and more were discussed.

“South Korean pop music is symbol to the charms of South Korean culture, the wide expansion of Hallyu symbolized by K-pop was possible because people working in the music industry have put in a lot of effort.” minister Park Bo-gyoon stated throughout the meeting.

Moreover, he promised to look over the expansion of foreign concert by increasing the infrastructure, financial support for middle sized company’s overseas expansion rearrangement of regulation upon current music industry and more.
