SEOUL, Dec. 26 (Yonhap) -- A tribute LP featuring signature songs by late singer-songwriter Kim Kwang-seok (1964-1996), who died in 1996, will be released to mark the 30th anniversary of his death next year.
Production company Artbuster said Friday it will release a special-edition tribute album, "Goodbye, Kwang-seok Hyung: 30th Anniversary," on Jan. 6, the date marking the 30th anniversary of Kim’s passing.
Artbuster said the album was created to share Kim’s musical legacy with the many people who feel indebted to his music and songs, describing it as a landmark tribute album made with recording contributions from 101 fans, not just professional musicians.
The album compiles 10 tracks from previous tribute albums released to mark milestones such as the 50th anniversary of Kim’s birth in 2014, the 19th anniversary of his death in 2015 and the 25th anniversary in 2021. Songs include "On the Street" by Cho Dong-hee, "The Unfinished Song" by Kim Mok-in, "To Kwang-seok" by Burger Boys and "Story of an Old Couple in Their 60s" by Han Dae-soo.
Adding further meaning to the release, the album also features a fan tribute version of "Around Thirty," sung by 101 ordinary fans.
Artbuster said it sought to offer a genuine tribute to Kim’s "The Unfinished Song," expressing hope that the album would serve as a small campfire of warmth during the winter without him.
