SEOUL, June 18 (Yonhap) – S. Korean singer PSY's summer concert "SUMMER SWAG," which will be held for the first time in three years, has showed off its popularity as most tickets were sold out as soon as the reservation began.
According to the music industry on June 17, tickets for 10 performances in seven cities nationwide were sold out in an instant, which were available from Thursday at 8 p.m.
“SUMMER SWAG” is a brand of PSY’s concert that will be held in Incheon, Seoul, Suwon, Gangneung, Yeosu, Daegu, and Busan for seven weeks from July 9 to Aug. 20. It has not been able to open due to the spread of COVID-19 since 2019, but announced its resumption this year.
The agency P NATION said, "’SUMMER SWAG’ has drawn attention of the audience every year due to PSY’s unique stage manners, diverse performances, production, and special effects," adding, "This year's ‘SUMMER SWAG’ will also be an upgraded performance."
This year is all the more meaningful for PSY, which marks his 10th anniversary of "Gangnam Style" hitting the world in 2012. He also topped the music charts and music programs in Korea with his ninth full album "That That,” which was released in April.
At this year's concert, viewers will be able to listen to "Gangnam Style" and "That That," as well as other hit songs that are familiar to people of all ages.
Although the concert reservation was a "hit," the host cannot just be happy.
This is because even before the reservation began, there were voices calling for "wasting water in the midst of drought," and recently, a series of government authorities have pointed out the concerns regarding quarantine.”
In particular, Korea Disease Control and Prevention Agency expressed concerns on Thursday, saying, "There is a risk for the spread of bacteria," and requested the next day, "It possible, do not sprinkle water."
As most of the tickets were already sold out, the staffs are also known to be worried since the intensity of messages from quarantine authorities is getting stronger. For now, the concert will be held as scheduled, but it is reported that it is seeking a clever plan to resolve concerns about quarantine.
The staff from “SUMMER SWAG” said, "We are discussing ways to provide waterproof masks and enforce quarantine at the concert."
It also said as a notice, "Wearing a mask is an important personal quarantine guideline to prevent the spread of COVID-19," adding, "You cannot enter unless you wear a personal mask." One waterproof mask is provided to all audiences, but apart from this, it is essential to wear a personal mask."
