SEOUL, April 30 (Yonhap) -- Incheon Harbor area is expecting some 10,000 foreign tourists to gather and enjoy free beer and fried chicken in May.
The Incheon Metropolitan City and Incheon Tourism Organization announced on the 30th that they will hold the "2nd 1883 Incheon Beer & Chicken Party" at the front yard of the Imaginary Platform, a complex cultural space located at Inner Pier 8 of Incheon Port, on May 25.
The event is expected to attract 10,000 foreign tourists from over 10 countries including China, the United States, Taiwan, Hong Kong, and Russia.
Starting from 4 p.m., performances by the Marine Police Orchestra and the Yeonsu-gu Municipal Art Group will take place, along with additional events where participants can experience the attire of the opening period and traditional hanji crafts.
Furthermore, from 6 p.m. for two hours, there will be performances by singers Dae Won and Park Da-hye, girl group performances, a drone show, and a taekwondo demonstration.
The name of this event, "1883 Incheon Beer & Chicken Party," was chosen by taking the initials of Incheon's representative foods, beer (from the Open Port) and fried chicken (from Sinpo Market), and adding the year of the opening of Incheon Port, '1883,' in front.
The Incheon Metropolitan City and the Incheon Tourism Organization plan to distribute 5,000 fried chickens and 8,000 cans of open port beer for free to the participants.
In last year's inaugural event, 3,000 foreign tourists participated, enjoying 1,400 fried chickens and 3,000 cans of beer.
Kim Chung-jin, Director of the Incheon Metropolitan City's Department of Culture, Sports, and Tourism, stated, "Since the opening in 1883, Incheon has actively promoted reform and openness while accepting world cultures," adding, "We have organized this event to actively promote Incheon's various tourism contents and attract foreign tourists."
