SEOUL, Sept. 3 (Yonhap) -- South Korean beauty tech firm APR claimed that Sudan Red was not detected in multiple official tests of Medicube's "PDRN Pink Collagen Capsule Cream," disputing reports that Singapore's Health Sciences Authority (HSA) recently detected trace amounts of the substance in the product.

 

In a press release, APR said it conducted a separate official test of the product in Singapore at HSA's request and found no Sudan Red. It said HSA subsequently notified the company that measures suspending the sale and supply of the product had been lifted.

 

Sudan Red is a chemical dye known to have potential carcinogenic effects when humans are exposed to it. Its use in food and cosmetics is banned in several countries because of safety concerns.

 

APR said there was no indication that products from the batch number identified by HSA as containing trace amounts of Sudan Red had been exported to Singapore. It added that the authenticity of the product and how it came to be distributed through local retailers need to be verified.

 

APR particularly called for fact-checking regarding Venus Beauty, which was identified as the seller of the sample tested by HSA, saying it has never officially supplied or exported the product to the company. It said the authenticity of the sample and the specific distribution route need to be established.

 

APR said, "We are verifying the facts based on objective evidence to determine through what channel the product was distributed locally." It added, "With product quality and safety as our top priorities, we will verify testing and distribution records, communicate with the authorities and take any necessary measures."
